Is decision paralysis even thing? Or is it actually avoidance? By not deciding, you actually decide against it. You are basically saying “no, I don’t want anything”.
But what is the reason for that? I think it is lack of experience. If you had the choice between 10 flavors of ice cream, but you don’t know any of them, then you’ll most likely end up avoiding to make any decision. When we are younger, and our parents made that decision for us, it was easier to break out of that avoidance. Our deep trust in our parents at a young age, made us capable of trying things without knowing if we will like that. But that is how we shaped new experiences.
If you don’t have friends or family that you trust, it becomes really hard to embrace new experiences. The only “solo” way to make new experiences is basically random experimentation. But that is something scary. When we think about how to spend our money efficiently, then experimentation can become a huge waste of money. But is it really waste? Maybe it is the price to pay for curing decision paralysis, to break out of avoidance. You have to embrace being wasteful in order to make those new experiences.
And maybe this is when decision paralysis ends: When you made enough experiences to make an informed decision of what you actually want. If you are stuck in a situation where you are tired of the old, but also avoidant of the new, then you’ll probably live a very stale and boring life.
